'AC Milan won't be sold'

Silvio Berlusconi's son, Pier Silvio, says it is unlikely his father will decide to sell Milan amid rumours to the contrary.

Last month, La Gazzetta dello Sport revealed how Berlusconi might be forced to rid himself of the Rossoneri after his holding company Fininvest was ordered to pay €750m to CIR for bribing a judge in the 1990s battle to buy publisher Mondadori.

Albanian oil magnate Rezart Taçi gave an interview with the pink paper saying he was in a position to buy the club and had in fact mentioned the possibility to Berlusconi.

The story has re-surfaced this week and Pier Silvio feels compelled to deny it, telling a group of journalists in Monte Carlo that he hasn't heard of any reason why his father might offload the Rossoneri.

“I promise that I don't worry myself about Milan and that I also don't know anything about it,” Pier Silvio said.

“However, as a Milanista I hope that Milan is a matter my father occupies himself with. I don't think there are plans to sell,” he concluded.

Berlusconi rescued Milan from the point of bankruptcy in 1986 and ushered in an era of unprecedented success.

However, since his foray into politics, Berlusconi hasn't been able to spend as much time with the club and cannot afford to be seen spending vast amounts of money on the team when the economy is suffering.
